Department of English was established in 1998. The motto of the department is to develop and enhance students’ global, communicative skills and also to make them proficient and well organized graduates of English language. Our department strongly believes that the endeavor of fostering knowledge of English language and literatures in English empowers our students in the globally competitive era. In order to achieve this motto/goal, the department along with the curricula organizes number of co-curricular activities throughout the year. The continuous effort of the department has resulted into university ranks, high merits of the students, good placements of students and active student participation in various qualifying examinations and state service examination. Most of the students are working as teachers of English at various English medium public schools.

The research oriented and devoted faculty members, well-equipped infrastructure (Computer, Internet, Projector, Screen, Green Board, etc) and the availability of diverse programs/courses are the strengths of the department. At present, the department offers Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) courses on regular mode. From 2014 to 2019, the department offered Career Oriented Certificate Course in Communicative English and since 2019; it has been offering Certificate Course in English Grammar at the institutional level. In 2015, the Department of English had organized “Two Day National Seminar on Environmental Degradation and the Problem of Livelihood reflected in Literature” sponsored by UGC, New Delhi. The department has signed MoU with Ghodawat University, Atigre to organize activities and programs in collaboration. The department has three permanent and two visiting faculty members. One of the faculty members is the member of Board of Studies (BoS) and also has worked as a member of various University Committees such as LIC, FIP and SIM Editorial, etc. One of the faculty members has completed Minor Research Project (MRP) sponsored by UGC.  The university rank of student, good rate of placement and student progression, pivotal role of the faculty in University committees and curriculum design, organization of national seminar, completion of MRP by faculty and participation of faculty members in the Creation of Self Instructed Material (SIM) at University level are some of the significant achievements of the Department of English.
