B.A. and M.A. English Program Outcomes (POs):

PO1: At the time of graduation in English, students will be developed as language proficient and effective communicator in English that will improve their employability.

PO2: Graduation in English fosters the knowledge and love of literature and language among the students.

PO3: At the time of graduation in English, Students will be empowered with their ability of reading, writing and thinking critically.

PO4: Studying at the department of English provides a broader view and comprehensive picture of the world through English language and Literatures in English of the world.

PO5: After graduating in English, students are able to understand the history of language and literature in English, forms of literature and critical theories and philosophy dominated in the area of literature.

Semester I:

Paper No. I: Modern Indian Writing in English Translation (CBCS)

  1. 1 After studying this course students are able to understand the rise and development of Short Story as a literary form.
  2. 2 Studying this course, students are able to understand the nature, elements and features of Short Story as a literary form.

Semester II:

Paper No. II: Modern Indian Writing in English Translation (CBCS)

  1. 1 After studying the course students are able to understand the various types of the literary form-Short Story such as Fable, Legend, Parable, anecdote and Fairy tale.
  2. 2 The successful completion of this course develops interpretative and analytical skills among the students.

Semester III:

Paper No. III: Literature and Cinema (CBCS)

  1. 1 Students are able to understand the film and its relationship with literary texts by reading popular novels and films prescribed in the syllabus.
  2. 2 Students are able to learn film techniques, the practice of adaptation and interdependency of film and fiction.

Paper No. IV: Partition Literature (CBCS)

  1. 1 The study of this course creates awareness about partition literature among the students. 
  2. 2 Students are able to understand the issues, consequences and political dimensions of partition through prescribed texts.

Semester IV:

Paper No. V: Literature and Cinema (CBCS)

  1. 1 Students are able to understand the difference between Bollywood and Hollywood Movies.
  2. 2 Students are able to develop their critical sense by studying the texts and films in relation to social realism reflected in the film and literature.

Paper No VI: Partition Literature (CBCS)

  1. 1 Students are able to understand the impact of partition on society, religion and especially on Women.
  2. 2 Studying partition literature students are able to learn the concepts like home and exile, the significance of short stories in participation literature

Semester V and VI

Paper No. VII and XII: Introduction Literary Criticism (CBCS)

  1. 1 Students are able to understand the major trends in criticism.
  2. 2 Students are able to interpret critical concepts.
  3. 3 Students are able to study the original contributions to literary criticism.
  4. 4 Students are acquainted with literary and critical movements.
  5. 5 Students will understand the meaning and appreciate the poems critically.

 

Paper No. VIII and XIII: English Poetry (CBCS)

      1. 1 Students will be able to trace the development of the poetry in English from the days of Shakespeare to the contemporary India.
      2. 2 Students will be able to appreciate and analyze the poems properly.
      3. 3 Students will have a fairly comprehensive view of the Western and Eastern poetic tradition and they will be able to relate it to various literary movements.
      4. 4 Students will have an insight into poetry and they will be able to make a lively and interesting reading.

Paper No. IX and XIV: English Drama (CBCS)

    1. 1 Students are able to understand different forms of drama.
    2. 2 Students are able to relate drama to their ideological or socio-political contexts.
    3. 3 Students are able to improve their creative and imaginative faculties through the reading of drama.
    4. 4 Students are able to know about various aspects of the drama.

      1. 1 Students are able to understand different forms of novel.
      2. 2 Students are able to relate novels to their ideological or socio-political contexts.
      3. 3 Students are able to improve their creative and imaginative faculties through the reading of novels.
      4. 4 Students are able to know about various aspects of the novel.

Paper No. XI and XVI: Language and Linguistics (CBCS)

      1. 1 Students know the concept of communication.
      2. 2 Students are familiar with varieties of the English language.
      3. 3 Students know different levels of study of the English language.
